World-class soloists join York Minster Choir this Christmas for Handel's Messiah

One of the UK’s leading cathedral choirs will be joined by internationally renowned soloists this Christmas for a special performance of Handel’s Messiah at York Minster.
The York Minster Choir will be joined by Julia Doyle (Soprano), Feargal Mostyn Williams (Counter-tenor), Peter Auty (Tenor) and Morgan Pearse (Baritone) on Saturday 9 December for the performance of the famous work.
The piece was first performed in Dublin in 1742 and has since become one of the best-known and most popular English oratorios.
“It has become a recent tradition for the York Minster Choir to perform Messiah during Advent,” explains Robert Sharpe, Director of Music at York Minster. “It’s particularly poignant at this time of year as it tells the story of the coming of Christ.
“We’re thrilled to be joined by some world-class soloists for this year’s performance, which will take place in the beautiful setting of York Minster’s Nave.”
The performance takes place on Saturday 9 December at 7pm and tickets, priced from £12-£25, are available from the York Theatre Royal Box Office by phone 01904 623568, online here or in person at the theatre in St Leonard’s Place, YO1 7HD.
The Box Office is open Mondays from 10am-5pm and Tuesday-Saturday 10am-8pm (on non-show days or until 6pm on show days). Please note that a booking fee of £1.50 is payable for all transactions apart from cash payments in person at the Box Office.
