The York Minster Fund is made up of a board of trustees supported by a Director and administrative team.
Richard Shaw - Chair of board of trustees
Born in 1957 in Rawdon, near Leeds, Richard was number five in a family of six boys. He was educated at Stonyhurst College, Lancashire, and Millfield School in Somerset, going on to graduate in 1982 with a first-class honours degree in Production Engineering from Leeds Polytechnic.
Richard describes himself as an engineer and professional business manager. He has worked in a variety of manufacturing businesses, from brick making to the production of chainmail gloves for butchers. Employed in both operations and sales, his work has taken him to most corners of the globe, including a year based in Chicago. He is currently Managing Director of Ellis Patents Ltd. in Rillington; a classic SME with 60 employees and sales of around £7m, more than half of which are exported.
In addition to his involvement with YMF, Richard is Chairman of Derwent Training Association in Malton; a centre for training engineering and electrical apprentices in the region.
Richard still lives in Rawdon with his wife Gill, and they have two children.
Neil Sanderson - Director
Neil is a native of West Yorkshire and although he has lived in several parts of the UK, he now lives in the East Riding. Following his graduation with a BSc in Geography from the University of Liverpool, Neil built a successful career in the food industry, both in the UK and Europe. He has more than 20 years experience in managing director roles with businesses such as Findus Group, Tryton Foods (Aunt Bessie’s) and Danone.
Neil joined the Fund in 2016, having spent the past five years as managing director of Florette UK and Ireland - the UK’s leading salads brand and a subsidiary of Agrial, a French agricultural co-operative. Neil also holds non-executive directorships in Angflor, a business growing baby leaf salads, based in Essex and the Kids Food Company, a leading supplier of branded baby and toddler snacks.
Neil is actively involved in his local Church, of All Saints, South Cave and is an active local preacher in the Methodist Hull west and central circuit.
