York Minster is now open for individual and public worship. For full details of our worship opening times and dates visit What’s On or for details of the measures we’ve put in place to help keep our staff and visitors safe during worship, visit our safety measures page. Please also remember that it is now a requirement for visitors to wear a face covering in places of worship, so we will be asking all of our visitors to wear a face covering before entering the building.
Parts of the Minster are open for sightseeing. Tickets must be booked in advance and are now available to purchase online here for visits up to three weeks in advance. Visit our Plan Your Visit page for full details of opening times, dates and details about the areas which will be open, and for information about how we’re working to help keep everyone safe during your visit, see our visitor safety measures page. If you already have a valid ticket and would like to return for a repeat visit, or if you are a York resident and are entitled to free admission, you still need to book a timed arrival slot here. Please also remember that it is now a requirement for visitors to wear a face covering in places of worship, so we will be asking all of our visitors to wear a face covering before entering the building.

Like many organisations, York Minster is now facing a huge financial impact due to the Coronavirus pandemic, with an expected loss of £5.2m in income this year.
We receive no regular income from the Government or Church of England for the maintenance or running of the Minster and rely on the income we generate from those who visit the cathedral. During these difficult times, we continue to work to further our Mission and safeguard the future of the cathedral. If you would like to support us in this work, please consider making a donation below. Thank you for your support.
