VisitYork Minster Stone Carving Festival 2018 – registration now open
Festival dates: 17 – 19 August 2018
Venue: Dean’s Park, York Minster
Masons, carvers, sculptors and stonework apprentices from across the UK and Europe are invited to take part in a weekend festival celebrating the craft of stone carving.
The theme for the festival will be ‘All creatures great and small’ and two types of limestone will be available – Ancaster Hard White and Magnesian Limestone, both measuring 200 x 200 x 300mm.
The stones will be auctioned on the Sunday afternoon and a prize will be presented to the best stone, judged by all of the participants.
Toilets, showers and basic accommodation including bed space* will be provided in the Minster School Hall and included in the registration fee. If you wish to arrange your own accommodation a list of accommodation in York can be found on the Visit York website here
Registration fee: £50 per person (£25 for apprentices), all skill levels. The price includes a festival t-shirt, BBQ on Friday 17th August and food during the weekend as outlined in the itinerary.
*Please note you must provide your own sleeping bags/covers
Festival itinerary:
Friday 17 August
Arrive afternoon/evening – registration before 6pm. BBQ starts.
Saturday 18 August
7am: Breakfast
8am – 6pm: Stone Carving Festival
7pm: Evening Meal
Sunday 19 August
7am: Breakfast
8am-3pm: Stone Carving Festival continues
3:30pm: Festival Stone Auction to public
5pm: Festival Closes
Food and refreshments will be served throughout the two days
