Cathedrals at Night

With the Association of English Cathedrals

Scroll to explore

Experience York Minster in a different light as the cathedral opens its doors after hours for an evening of contemplation, organ music and candlelight.

The evening is part of the national Cathedrals at Night initiative, coordinated by the Association of English Cathedrals (AEC), which will see cathedrals across the country welcoming people for the evening to explore their beautiful buildings and enjoy a taste of cathedral life.

The Minster event will begin with our regular Evensong service at 5.30pm, which all are welcome to attend, followed by the evening opening from 6.30pm. Visitors will be able to explore the cathedral’s Nave and East End, light a candle for inclusion in an installation in the Quire and listen to beautiful organ music inspired by a moonlight theme played by the Minster’s organists.

The Minster’s Crypts – which house the tomb of St William of York, the only saint to be buried at the cathedral – will also be open for visitors to explore.

Admission is free and no booking is required.
