Holy Week Address by the Archbishop of York

Scroll to explore

Followed by Compline on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 April

This year, the Archbishop of York, The Rt Revd Stephen Cottrell journeys with us through Holy Week. Each address is followed by the beautiful candlelit service of night prayer or ‘compline’ sung by the Ebor Singers. This service is a form of prayer said at the completion of the day, and traditionally after this service we are encouraged to enter into a time of silence. The Archbishop of York will preach at these services.

These services will also be livestreamed.

The order of service is available here.

Followed by Tenebrae on Wednesday 13 April

The service of Tenebrae is sung by The Ebor Singers. The service recounts the betrayal of Jesus and the events of the passion in music and silence and through the gradual extinguishing of candles. The Archbishop of York will give his third Holy Week Address at this service.

This service will also be livestreamed.

The order of service is available here.
