Choral Evensong takes place each day daily during Holy Week (5.15pm)
Thursday 18 April: Maundy Thursday
11am: Chrism Eucharist – The clergy and lay ministers of the Diocese renew their commitment to serve Christ, and oils are blessed for the anointing of the sick, the dying and of those who commit themselves to Christ 7pm: Eucharist of the Last Supper – The events of the night before Jesus died are enacted,particularly the ritual washing of feet as a sign of humility.
8.30pm: Watch – We keep watch with Christ as he prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane – the place where he was later arrested before his trial and crucifixion. A vigil will be kept until midnight in the Lady Chapel.
9.30pm Tenebrae held in the Quire until 10.30pm
Friday 19 April: Good Friday
(Entry to the Minster is free on Good Friday)
10am: Liturgy of Good Friday – on the day that Jesus died, a large wooden cross is the focus of our contemplation of the generous love of God made known in Christ’s giving of his life for the world
11.30am – 12.30pm: Stations of the Cross for families
(Dean’s Park) – a family friendly service with prayers and singing.
12pm: Three Hours Devotion – Service of readings, meditations, hymns and prayers with periods of silence for reflection.
Saturday 20 April: Easter Eve – The Easter
Liturgy: Vigil, Baptism and Confirmation, and First Eucharist of Easter, 8.30pm.
A powerful service in which the resurrection of Christ from the dead is celebrated with the Easter candle being brought into a darkened Minster and at which candidates are baptized and confirmed in the Crypt.
Sunday 21 April: Easter Day
(Entry to the Minster is free on Easter Day)
10am: Solemn Eucharist – This is the Church’s great celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
11.45am: Choral Matins – We continue to celebrate the joy of Easter with Choral Matins.
4pm: Solemn Evensong – The Minster’s celebration of Easter Day concludes with Solemn Evensong.
