Into Darkness: Allegri, Bach and Whitacre by candlelight

The Ebor Singers

Scroll to explore

TICKETS ARE NOW SOLD OUT

An evening of music from the 16th century to the present day, composed for evening services and the liturgy of Holy Week, and other pieces that focus on the symbolic and actual transition from light to darkness.

The Ebor Singers will be performing Allegri’s Miserere, Bach’s Jesu meine freude, alongside sacred pieces by Victoria, Tallis and Brahms. The concert will also include solo songs by Faure, Quilter and Gurney, and Eric Whitacre’s sublime madrigal, Sleep.

In this concert, the idea of using low and, at points, no lighting creates a moving atmosphere, and provides a fantastic opportunity for the audience to focus on the sound and lose the trappings that sometimes come with concerts of this type, in the beautiful and resonant Chapter House.

Adult tickets are £15,  Concessions £12, and under 16s and carers are free.
