Monteverdi: 1610 Vespers, by candlelight

Ebor Singers

Scroll to explore

Bridging Renaissance and Baroque styles, this glorious Venetian masterpiece is considered the grandest piece of religious music before Bach. Be transported to a world of passionate choruses, virtuosic solos, dancelike rhythms and sensuous duets, with surprises around every turn!

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear one of history’s most dramatic, varied, and exuberant sacred choral works—written to impress a Pope. While many performances of this work use instrumentalists, Monteverdi allowed for different performance options in his score.

The Ebor Singers will perform the version with organ and lute in support, under the backdrop of the atmospheric candle-lit Chapter House.

Doors open at 7.00pm with the concert starting at 7.30pm and finishing at approximately 9.30pm

Adult tickets are £16, under 25’s and students are £10 and carers are free.
