York Musical Society invites you to a popular programme of choral and orchestral classics in York Minster.

John Rutter’s Requiem , with its simple, lovely melodies and optimistic, reassuring text, has been a favourite with choirs and audiences since its premiere in 1986.

Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem was first performed in Huddersfield in 1936 as fears of a second European war were growing. The poetry of Walt Whitman, an anti-war speech by John Bright and words from the Bible together form the plea, ‘Give us peace’.

Described by Toscanini as ‘simple and beautiful’, Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings is one of the best-loved of all 20th-century string works.

Tickets are priced at £20, £15, & £10 (concessions available) and are available online, by telephoning 01904 557200 or in person from York Minster’s welcome desks.

Approximate finish time 9.45pm
