Venue: York Minster’s Chapter House.
Doors open: 7pm
Running time: 135 minutes ( inc. 15 minute interval)

The Chapter House, York Minster by candlelight

The Ebor Singers perform a moving programme of music from sixteenth-century Rome – the height of the Renaissance – by Victoria, Palestrina, Allegri and Lotti.  The services for Holy Week prompted composers to respond with some of their most expressive music, and The Ebor Singers will be performing Allegri’s mesmerising setting of Miserere, Lotti’s poignant Crucifixus and Victoria’s Lamentations and Responsories.

During the service of Tenebrae, candles are extinguished one by one, representing Jesus’ disciples leaving his side.  During this concert, the candlelight will be gradually extinguished until the choir perform in complete darkness – a stunning experience and unique way to listen to this magnificent music.

Pricing: £15 adult; £12 concession; £5 student; under 16s free with full paying adult
