Once upon a time, there was a city called York. It was ringed with sturdy stone walls, had a castle atop the hill, a towering cathedral and a medieval maze of stone streets and snickelways. In the depths of winter a spell was cast over the city. As if by magic, 40 sculptures of solid ice appeared, providing the people of York with frosty, fantastical and fairy-tale fun.
Live carving, hands-on experiences and the chance to win great prizes will provide you with some happily ever after this February as York Minster takes part in the annual York Ice Trail. What fantastical imagery from the cathedral do you think we’re putting on display carved in ice?
