York Musical Society presents two requiems in one concert, but separated by over 100 years and very different in style.
Michael Haydn, younger brother of the better known Joseph, composed his Requiem in 1771. It is exquisite and rarely performed, and is said to have inspired Mozart’s Requiem.
Gabriel Fauré’s well-loved Requiem  uses a shortened version of the funeral mass and is serene, calm and peaceful.
Front nave: £25; rear nave £20; side aisles*: £12. Under 12s free with accompanying adult.
