York Residents’ Festival – Free Tower Trips

Scroll to explore

Experience panoramic views of York from the highest point in the city – York Minster’s Central Tower.

As part of York Residents’ Festival, we are offering York residents and students the opportunity to take on our Tower Challenge for free. See medieval stonework and gothic grotesques as you climb 275 steps to the top.

Usually priced at £6, trips run every 45 minutes starting at 10.15am on Saturday, with the last taking place at 3.30pm. On Sunday, the first trips take place at 1.15pm and the last at 2.45pm.

Important information for Tower Trips:

Tower Trip tickets are weather dependent, are only available to book in the Minster on the day of your visit and are available on a first come, first served basis.

This offer is for York residents and students only with valid ID* – all other visitors will be charged the usual rate of £6.

*Valid ID consists of a York Card or a form of ID that clearly state a ‘York’ address or residency or a student ID for those in higher education in the city.  Please note, York residents are classed as those whose postcode falls under the jurisdiction of the City of York Council.

The trip is not available for under 8s or anyone who cannot meet our Health and Safety requirements. By booking a ticket, you agree to these terms and conditions.

Reminder: General admission to York Minster is free to York Residents all year round.
