A Welcome from the Acting Dean of York

Scroll to explore

Welcome to the York Minster website.

This is a very exciting and busy time at the Minster. We are looking forward to welcoming our new Dean, The Very Reverend Dominic Barrington, in November.

The poet Keats described autumn as a ‘Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness’, of course it is also a time of remembering. We remember loved ones who have died. The complicated grief that many are feeling due to the pandemic continues and, of course, we are all grieving because of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, in addition we all have people whose death has left painful empty spaces in our lives. There are opportunities in November to bring the sadness and grief we all feel to God in prayer, either alone in stillness or in the context of beautiful acts of worship. Our hope for all who grieve is that a visit to the Minster will bring assurance of God’s abiding love and the promise made in scripture that love never ends.

Towards the end of November Advent will begin with its themes of expectation and hope as we look forward to Christmas. You will see here the long list of wonderful services and great concerts that are taking place here at the Minster.

York Minster is here to welcome everyone to discover God’s love. Do come in person if you can but if you can’t do worship with us via our livestream.
