Peter Moger read Music at Merton College, Oxford, and after postgraduate study in composition, taught as Director of Music at Wadhurst College, Sussex.  He then read Theology at St John’s College, Durham, where he was Organ Scholar, and trained for ordination at Cranmer Hall, Durham.  After a curacy at Whitby, he served successively as Precentor of Ely Cathedral and Vicar of Godmanchester, before working for the Liturgical Commission as Worship Development Officer and as Secretary to the Commission.  He has been Precentor of York Minster since 2010.  He is the author of Crafting Common Worship and is a published composer. He is Chair of Trustees of the Song and Hymn Writers Foundation.

He has chaired the Academic Board of the Guild of Church Musicians, and was for many years a contributor to the RSCM Liturgy Planner Sunday by Sunday. He has a keen interest in the English Cathedral Anthem as a vehicle for the transmission of the Bible. Peter is married to Heather, a Suzuki teacher and performer, and they have two adult sons.
