VisitOn Tuesday 18th January 2022, the current Dean of York, The Right Reverend Dr Jonathan Frost, will receive his legal title as the 10th Bishop of Portsmouth at a service in London and he will subsequently be installed at Portsmouth Cathedral to begin public ministry in his new role. The process to select his successor as the new Dean of York is already underway.
Following consultation with the Dean and with the Chapter of York, The Archbishop of York, The Most Reverend Stephen Cottrell, has appointed The Revd Canon Michael Smith, Canon Pastor at York Minster, as Acting Dean of York for the duration of the vacancy. Canon Michael will start in his new role on Wednesday 19th January.
