Installing our solar panels

184 solar panels have now been installed, blessed, and switched-on on the roof of York Minster. The panels took four months to install, with every care taken to ensure their safe and discreet placement on the South Quire roof.

These panels will generate an estimated 70,000 kWh of energy per year, enough to deliver a third of the Minster’s electricity requirements.

This is the fourth solar installation on the Minster estate. Together these will generate 120,000 kWh of energy per year, enough to power 41 average UK homes, and make a significant contribution towards York Minster’s decarbonisation goals.
