Groups from across the globe travel to York Minster to see and experience one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals. Book in advance to secure private guided tours and enjoy group discounts.

Please note we are currently only able to accept bookings for groups of up to 33 people and all visits must be booked in advance.

 

 

Private guided tours

To help bring the stories and history of York Minster to life, groups have the option to book a private guided tour as part of their visit.

If you would like to book a private guided tour, please contact us using the details below at least one month before your visit so we can book one of our guides.

Tours can be arranged Monday-Saturday between 10am and 3pm. Only Minster accredited guides are permitted to guide in the building, and guiding is not permitted on Sundays.

Exhibitions On Now

A masterpiece in stained glass and stone

York Minster has one of the most significant collections of medieval stained glass in the country. See this stained glass up close and learn more about the stories they tell from one of our expert guides.

Highlights include:

  • The Great East Window, the largest expanse of medieval stained glass in England. Restored in 2018 in spectacular detail by York Glaziers Trust.
  • The Rose Window, currently undergoing a major conservation project following on from restoration completed after a fire in 1984.

Discover 2,000 years of history

Journey below the medieval Minster to discover over 2,000 years of history.

Our immersive, state-of-the-art Undercroft Museum will take you on a journey through time. This is your opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Roman soldiers, learn about the transformation of the Minster from the medieval period to the 1980s, and see artefacts from our historic collection on display, including the York Gospels a 13th century illuminated manuscript.

  • Child (5-17): £8 per child
  • Under 5s: Free

Booking:

York Minster is generally open for group visits between 9.30am and 3.30pm Monday to Saturday. Please check our opening times calendar for details on the date you are planning to visit.

As a working church, we sometimes need to close at short notice. By booking in advance, we can inform you of any changes.
