The launch of a new book exploring disability, ableism and healing in Christian theology will take place in York Minster’s Lady Chapel on Wednesday 11 March at 6.30pm.
Breaking, not Broken: Ableism and the Church after Constantine has been written by the Revd Canon Timothy Goode, the cathedral’s Canon for Congregational Discipleship and Nurture. Having lived with disability for over thirty years, Canon Tim draws on both lived experience and theological reflection to explore how ideas of bodily perfection have shaped Christian theology, practice and imagination, often to the exclusion of disabled people.
The book launch will be attended by Canon Tim; Stephen Cottrell, Archbishop of York; and Andrew Nunn, former Dean of Southwark, who will discuss perfectionism and disability in the church and read passages from the book.
The book will be available to purchase at the launch event and will also be sold in-store and online via the York Minster Shops:
York Minster Shop | Breaking not Broken – £30.00
All are welcome to attend, no booking is required.
