Heritage Open Days

Scroll to explore

To celebrate the national Heritage Open Days festival, we are opening the doors to York Minster’s Heritage Quad to the public for the first time.

Explore the award-winning Heritage Quad, home to the Minster’s expert stonemasons and the Centre of Excellence for Heritage Craft Skills and Estate Management. This exclusive opportunity allows visitors to meet and chat with experts from across our Works Department, including stonemasons, joiners and gardeners, as well as meet the team from York Glaziers Trust.

Good to know:

As this is part of the Heritage Open Days festival, this event is free.

There is no pre-booking required.

The meeting point for the Heritage Quad is in Dean’s Park near the Old Palace (Minster) Library. To enter Dean’s Park use the gate at the junction of Duncombe Place and Low Petergate, by the main visitor entrance to the Minster (west front), near Paddington’s bench. Minster staff will be available to direct you through the Park.

The Heritage Quad is a functioning workshop. Visitors are therefore advised to wear closed toe shoes. Although there is level access in the Heritage Quad itself, the path from Dean’s Park to the Heritage Quad is cobbled and therefore uneven. There is no parking available at the Minster. Please check the City of York Council’s website for the nearest car parks and arrangements for blue badge holders.
