The Chapter of York, the governing body of York Minster, are establishing a Safeguarding Management Committee (SMC) and are seeking an independent Chair of the Safeguarding Management Committee to help ensure Chapter’s commitment to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults at the Minster.
The formal establishment of the SMC, as a sub committee of Chapter, is the next step in creating greater resilience and scrutiny to ensure safeguarding risks are being appropriately mitigated and this important work is fully aligned to, and integrated with, the Diocese of York and the Church of England’s National Safeguarding Team.
The Chair of the SMC will be independent of the Chapter and the executive of the Cathedral, and will bring significant experience at an operational and strategic level in a relevant field; social care, education, health or criminal justice.
The post-holder will be responsible for chairing SMC meetings, ensure that the SMC can provide objective, independent scrutiny, test, and challenge of the safeguarding practices of York Minster as well as actively promote our commitment to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
The post is remunerated at £600 per day, with a minimum of 6 days required per annum.
