Experience an evening of shimmering sound and stillness as The Ebor Singers present Northern Lights – a captivating exploration of the rich and atmospheric choral music of the Baltic and Nordic worlds. Performed by candlelight in the magnificent Chapter House of York Minster, this evocative programme brings together music of haunting beauty, luminous harmonies, and spiritual reflection.
At the heart of the concert are two striking works entitled Northern Lights, by Ēriks Ešenvalds and Ola Gjeilo, each capturing in sound the wonder and mystery of the aurora borealis. Alongside these comes Dusk Songs by Kerry Andrew – a contemporary reimagining of the ancient service of Compline, written for The Ebor Singers in 2006. The choir’s recording of the work received widespread critical acclaim, praised as “stunning” by Classic FM and described by Choir & Organ as “an inspirational programme”, while Church Music Quarterly hailed its “intoxicatingly relaxed ambience”.
Northern Lights promises an immersive and unforgettable musical journey into sound, shadow, and light.
