Verdi: Requiem

The Ryedale Festival

Scroll to explore

The Ryedale Festival presents one of the greatest of all choral works, performed by one of the world’s finest orchestras in the awe-inspiring surroundings of York Minster.

From the hushed opening and the terror of the Dies irae to the sorrowful Lacrimosa and the final plea for deliverance, Verdi’s mighty vision for his Requiem encompasses heaven and hell, fire and earth, darkness and light, religious grandeur and operatic drama, with enduring power to move and inspire.

Hearing Verdi’s Requiem live is a monumental and moving experience. Conductor Sir Mark Elder has brought together his superb Hallé Orchestra and Choir with a stellar line-up of soloists for a one-off performance in York’s magnificent Minster for the Ryedale Festival.

This performance is given in memory of Dr Richard Shephard. It will last approximately 90 minutes with no interval.
