York Ice Trail

Scroll to explore

The UK’s biggest outdoor Ice Trail returns to York on 5 and 6 March with a range of magnificent ice sculptures set to transform the city centre.

This year’s trail will feature more than 40 sculptures sponsored by local businesses and based on the theme ‘Around the World’.

This year the Minster’s sculpture is inspired by The Sovereign’s Orb, as part of the cathedral’s activity throughout 2022 to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Sovereign’s Orb is part of the Crown Jewels and is used during the coronation of a monarch, with the Orb signifying the Christian world, with its cross above a globe.

The sculpture will be situated on the Minster’s South Piazza from 10am on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 March for people to view as part of the trail.
