Salary: £21,743 | Hours: 37.5 | Location: York Minster | Closing date: 13 November 2026
We’re looking for a motivated apprentice to join our Level 3 Improvement Technician Apprenticeship Programme at York Minster, developing practical skills in continuous improvement and digital surveying.
You’ll be part of an ambitious new chapter for York Minster. Our Centre of Excellence is establishing the Minster Precinct as a world-class campus for research, education and training in traditional craft and the advanced technical skills needed to care for a 21st-century heritage estate. By encouraging global learning and knowledge sharing, it will safeguard vital skills for future generations and set a benchmark for the management of complex heritage sites.
Based in our state-of-the-art Tech Hub and working across the Minster Precinct, you’ll gain hands-on experience using digital survey equipment and improvement techniques to support the care, conservation and future planning of this extraordinary heritage estate.
You’ll develop practical skills in measured survey, photography, laser scanning, photogrammetry and point-cloud processing, producing accurate 2D and 3D information. You’ll also learn how to map processes, analyse data and apply Lean and Six Sigma techniques to identify opportunities and support lasting improvements.
You’ll learn from experienced colleagues, build a portfolio of workplace evidence and complete day-release training alongside your apprenticeship, with support as you prepare for your End-Point Assessment.
We’re looking for someone with a practical mindset, a keen eye for detail and a genuine enthusiasm for learning. You’ll need good literacy, numeracy and digital skills, together with the commitment to attend college part-time and complete the programme. An interest in digital technology, surveying, data, construction, conservation, heritage or engineering would be ideal, but previous specialist experience is not essential.
Ready to build your future where innovation meets heritage?
Apply by midnight on 13 November 2026. Interviews are scheduled for early December 2026.
All appointments are subject to satisfactory pre-appointment checks (e.g. references). Enrolment to the apprenticeship is subject to the successful candidate meeting the entry requirement criteria of the training provider, this may include literacy and numeracy assessments.
