Experience one of the top visitor attractions in York with a trip to York Minster. Regularly voted one of the most popular things to do in York, the Minster is not only an architecturally stunning building but is a place to discover the history of York over the centuries, its artefacts and treasures.
The Minster is open for sightseeing everyday as well as regular services, events and concerts. Please note there are occasions when York Minster is open for services only. Please check our Closures section for sightseeing closures.
Open daily from 7:00am until 6:30pm - for service times, please check the calendar.

Please note: Due to Evensong preparation, the Quire closes at 4.15pm for general tourism as does The East End and Crypt (from 4.30pm). All until 6pm. On Sundays these time are brought forward one hour.
All other areas are unaffected.

In the winter, Tower Trips may be affected by the weather and will only be available on the day. Large groups (10+) would always be advised to check in advance with reception regarding availability year-round.

Plus, your admission ticket to York Minster is valid for 12 months! A free guided tour is included in your admission price, subject to availability. Adult admission starts from just £10 and children under-16 can visit the Minster for free with an adult!

*valid for up to 4 children visiting the Minster with one adult (excluding groups of 10+).
UK tax payers may 'Gift Aid' their entrance fee which means that we can claim back 25% of your entrance fee from HM Revenue and Customs.

Your Minster ticket includes a free guided tour (subject to availability).
It costs £20,000 a day to run York Minster. Your admission charge directly supports the future of this holy and historic building. In these circumstances we trust you will understand why we charge for entry. No charges are made for those who wish to enter York Minster to pray, light a candle, or attend a service.
